Benjamin Barshay's beginnings in real estate and his New York City familiarity both date back to the 1980's. Since then, for nearly a quarter century, Barshay has made his home in Greenwich Village selling property within his neighborhood and the surrounding city blocks. Barshay has been a full-time realtor now for 20 years. His Barshay Brokerage which he co-founded with wife Michelle, is a small operation, employing just 3 sales people. Despite being somewhat at a disadvantage to some of the larger realtors in the area, Barshay founded the Small Firms Committee at the Real Estate Board of New York to establish himself further. One upside to Barshay is his designation as a Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager, or CRB. This certification is highly regarded, as it involves extensive education and study, and is only attained by 3% of all realtors nationwide. However, it looks to be a rather difficult time for Barshay's company in the competition for the city's prized properties: Barshay recently revealed that the company only brokered 2 contracts this entire past summer. Not the kind of numbers a company of any size needs to see. Nonetheless, Barshay may not be one of New York City's most renowned brokers, but his determination and commitment rank with the best.
