With an ongoing childhood obesity crisis, it's encouraging to read about teachers doing all they can to prevent this disease. Adrianne Waters, Barbara Schulze, Aubri Waters & Shelly Graham , all teachers at Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary School in Copperas Cove, TX, were recently recognized with Time Warner's National Teacher Award for their program "Deep in the Heart of Learning." The project encouraged kindergarten and first graders to evaluate their fitness and nutrition goals, and also gain knowledge of the body's vital organs. A doctor, nurse, dentist and fellow teachers came to speak to the group about healthy lifestyle choices, and their classes participated in the local American Cancer Society Relay for Life event.
