A native of Hawaii, Jen Lehman (nee Almquist) has made big ripples in her new home: Colorado. At Superior Elementary School, Lehman inspires her second grade students by making their lessons come to life. For example, students observe the life cycles of frogs and draft their own classroom constitutions while wearing historical garb. Lehman is more than just an creative teacher, however. She also brings a positivity to her profession that helps her students love what they are learning. She says that her goal as an educator is to have every child smiling at the end of the day, and thanks to her cheerful attitude, her students have a good example to learn from. They also have higher test scores thanks to her careful attention to each student. In 2006, Lehman's success as an educator paid off when she was awarded a prestigious Milken Educators Award. For this "Superior" educator, the award was well deserved.
