Pamela Harman is an Earth and Space Science teacher at Spain Park High School in Hoover, Alabama. She's also the state's 2008 Teacher of the Year whose website offers a glimpse into the academic universe awaiting her students. Ms. Harman teaches Geology, Astronomy and Meteorology to the next generation of Alabama scientists who can certainly justify why their academic minds are filled with (thoughts of) rocks or why they "have their heads in the clouds." Kidding aside, Ms. Harman makes science an enjoyable journey of inquiry and discovery because she strives to motivate her students to ask questions, comprehend, and apply and generalize the knowledge they have learned. Her approach to high school science is perhaps more rigorous than most, but her skill as a teacher certainly prepares her students for a future in science, both substantively and technically. A former US Marine and a National Board Certified Teacher, Ms. Harman is well prepared to tackle the challenges of teaching and certainly well qualified. She holds a Masters of Geosciences from Mississippi State University and has been published in the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT).
