what's interesting about Cindy?

Imagine you're a high school student enrolled in honors chemistry. Quizzes, periodic table of elements, math and molecules, can you picture it? I can. It wasn't fun in high school, and it doesn't sound fun now. Cindy Grindy at Duluth East High School has built her curriculum around making honors chemistry a little different, a little more accessible. Her students learn through teaching. Centre to the hands-on approach, students prepare presentations for elementary students at nearby Congdon and Lester Park Elementary schools. Working through chemistry principles and cementing their own knowledge, Grindy's students present 10 to 15 science age appropriate and engaging demonstrations. Sounds fun and don't we all learn more efficiently when the material is fun? For her work, Grindy was named Minnesota's 2005 American Star of Teaching.
