Sarah Russell has been part of the biggest banking takover in history. She is CEO of ABN AMRO Asset Management, the Dutch bank which enjoyed its status as one of the largest banks in Europe until the 2007 takeover by RBS, Fortis, and Banco Santander. The bailouts have caused RBS to be owned by the state in Scotland and Fortis is now owned by the Dutch government. Sarah got into banking in 1981 at the Toronto Dominion Bank in Melbourne, Australia. She served in trading, sales, and management roles. She joined ABN AMRO in 1994 in the Financial Markets division. Russell was soon elevated to Director, Head of Commodities and Head of Corporate Sales Australia and New Zealand. In 2000 she went to the Amsterdam headquarters to work as Business Manager to Senior Executive Vice President, Global Financial Markets- and then, yes, CEO for Wholesale Clients. Sarah earned her Master's degree in Applied Finance at Macquarie University in Sydney.
