It's refreshing to see a green building company that truly believes in the main goals behind "going green". Cameron Habel Construction of Oakland, California is a homebuilder that has been in practice for almost two decades creating aesthetically pleasing and interesting homes. Michael Metz is one of four on the Cameron Habel staff that is able to boast his position as a Certified Green Building Professional. This accolade is only given to whoever can successfully complete a rigorous two-day test that focuses on energy, resource conservation, indoor air quality, and developing and marketing a green business. It's no wonder that Metz and a few others have pursued this difficult feat. Cameron Habel openly promotes their eco-friendly position on the company website and even argue that, "Builders from the earliest days were green builders. They worked with natural materials taken from where they lived. They made structures that could last for centuries or could be packed up and moved to another location." Today such Earth-conscious building practices are much more difficult to accomplish. Many different building materials, complete with toxins, are lining the walls of our homes due to their competitive price in the open market. And let's not forget that environmentalism has never been an overwhelmingly popular trend (outside of San Francisco, of course). Aside from a few hippies and protestors on college campuses across the United States, organic materials never really caught on …until now. Fortunately for pretty much everyone, including the natural habitat, businesses and individuals have embraced a few sustainable ideas and are willing to adapt them to their daily lives. And who are we to thank? Michael Metz and companies like Cameron Habel Construction come to mind.
