At first glance, I pondered as to why Kathryn Barry was chosen as one of 2009’s “30 Under 30” by Realtor Magazine
. Barry promotes herself and her services on MySpace with bright, colorful circles strewn vertically across the page's background which is more fitting for a teenage girl rather than a real estate professional, not to mention it's distracting to the site's content.
She also failed to provide links to Prudential Preferred Realty’s Web site as well as basic contact information which sent me on an unnnecessary quest. I began to wonder if I was suddently transported to a time sans telephone, e-mail and social networking sites. In addition, citing controversial figure, Kanye West, as someone she’d like to meet may not have been the smartest choice as it may deter a potential client. Despite the flaws and upon closer inspection of Barry, I found that her enthusiasm for Pittsburgh was quite endearing and contagious. She adores the city’s historical aspects and especially loves Bloomfield as well as Lawrenceville. Barry is also actively involved in the National Association of Realtors as well as the Realtor’s Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh.
She has also been featured on HGTV’s “My House is Worth What?” giving advice to homebuyers on the value of their newly renovated abodes. While Kathryn Barry’s promotional skills need a little polishing up, her welcoming and unassuming nature is refreshing.
