To some, the fact that Gary Gwilliam only takes on about 1% of the cases that cross his desk may seem like he’s not working very hard. But when you consider that the odds of him believing alive to this day are 1 in a million, it’s pretty amazing. Gwilliam is a plaintiff’s employment attorney who one day turned to alcohol as a way to ease the pain of losing a horrific auto accident case. That quickly spiraled in to 16 shots a night and a fateful night where he blacked out and drove his car across the median of a highway. An intervention was called and Gwilliam was sober in a week. He’s stayed sober for over 20+ years. During that time, he’s focused on reviving a law practice that at one time led to Gwilliam being nominated for trial lawyer of the year two years in a row. The road to recovery from alcohol addiction has had a profound impact on Gwilliam’s professional life in addition to his personal life and in 1994 he was awarded by the Consumer Attorneys of California for a seminar he gave on ethics.
