Andy Rubin is VP of engineering for search engine giant Google, Inc. Long before the popular Android operating system for mobile phones was property of Google, it was the invention of Rubin, who had already carved himself quite a reputation as an engineer, entrepreneur and executive in Silicon Valley. Though Rubin can boast having been an engineer for both Google and Apple, and even having a hand in the manufacture of the once-trendy Tmobile Sidekick, it is his current role overseeing the development of Android that has elevated his recognition factor throughout the industry. Rubin is a true pioneer in the mobile industry whose enthusiasm for technology decorates his house with robotic doorbells and retina ID scanners. As a former colleague of Rubin's once said, "It’s the classic Rubin thing: You do it for the sake of doing it and because it’s cool". It was Rubin who was trying to develop operating systems for handhelds as far back as his days with an Apple spinoff in the earlier part of last decade, but he has truly hit the bullseye with Android, which continues it epic climb in market share. In May 2010, the OS had been running on less than 10% of phones in the US - but in Q4, that figure had jumped to an impressive 32.9% - literally 1 in 3 phones running Rubin's open source software. In the meantime, Rubin resists taking shots at his old employer Apple or their iOS operating system, instead preferring to extol the virtues of his smartly developed, increasingly popular Android, which continues to parallel Rubin's own upward path of success. rating sources: http://www.businessinsider.com/sv100/2010#andy-rubin-3, http://www.fastcompany.com/1630444/googles-andy-rubin-on-android-full-flash-support-and-why-hed-be-fine-with-a-leaked-prototype,
