Ken Ziffren’s rise to prominence as one of the most powerful lawyers in Hollywood has come with a hefty price tag. The man known for representing clients like Jay Leno, Tom Hanks and Ice Cube has gone through two divorces, three marriages and two major surgeries. The past couple of years have seen him scale his work weeks in about half from 120 hours a week to around 50. UCLA Law School, where Ken teaches seminars on Network Television and Motion Picture Distribution, has been one of the beneficiaries Ken spending more time away from the office. Teaching law seems like an ironic turn for someone who never intended on being a lawyer. Ziffren’s parents convinced him law was a way to avoid being drafted and after completing law school at UCLA, Ziffren clerked for U.S. Chief Justice Earl Warren before joining his father’s firm for twelve years. When the senior Ziffren decided to merge the firm with another practice, the younger Ziffren decided to venture out on his own to help create Ziffren, Brittenham, Branca & Fischer.
