RM aren't sat there with a dog sniffing every package man, you'll only find dogs at places for sniffing packages brought from other countries at the airport's. It's the staff themselves that have been told to keep an eye out for packages while sorting. So any smell strong enough for a human to smell is the issue, it then gets flagged and passed on to a manager which will usually report it to the police. Aslong as it's boxed and doesn't smell it looks like any other package in the millions they process every day. The chance of being caught is very slim providing there is no smell! Nearly every case I have read up on in the last week have being discovered in the sorting office from damaged packaging where it's hanging out OR poorly wrapped and stinking.
