As much as I do agree with you and trust me I do, I’ll play devils advocate.

Do you believe we would have the advanced societies that we have today without religion? Religion was in my opinion the main thing that brought us together instead of just being small packs of tribes

Also if you look at what the world was like even just 50 years ago let alone 200 years it is crazy how far we’ve come in terms of morality.

Now with all this said it makes me sick to my core what is going on around the world right now, I have to refrain from reading sub consciously attractive material as it has such a detrimental effect on my mental health.

Unfortunately I have come to the conclusion we are just so inherently flawed, evil will always make it to the top regardless of if it is a socialist or capitalist society.

I just believe despite how religion has been used as an evil power, it is one of the main reasons we’re in the safest part of history ever. It is a double edged sword

I also believe the west is just as bad as some of these counties you mention, we are just far better at hiding it.

It wasn't do nothing. He proposed a mutualist economy compete with the capitalist one, what Lenin would later appropriate as dual power, to eventually subsume it. In practice, it is questionable if he even was an anarcho; he sat in parliament, was against strikes and revolutions, and advocated for money in the form of labour vouchers.

Which govt? Given the current prevailing global ideology is extreme neoliberalism, fuelled by libertarian ideals, it seems unlikely, except potentially for the use of controlling criminal use of currency.

Personally I don't subscribe to a hyper individualistic libertarian neo liberal philosophy. And I think that in looking at what FDR did - lifting the US economy, the alphabet agencies etc - he did make the USA better. And subsequent adherents to the philosophy I have described above have undone much of his work.

looking at the economic and societal impact (worldwide) fdr's legacy is militaraising the united states. the country has been in a constant state of war since he was in office and americans now devote a day of work each week to buying weapons and feeding soldiers.

i can't see how his administrative agencies have been undone. apart from the legal challenges of his own time they are much bigger than they were then.

Given the war he was funding, I am not sure I blame him for heavily funding the military. In fact, as someone whose family were murdered living in a country that the Nazis tried to invade, I kind of celebrate it.

And given the cold war, most of his successors can't be blamed either. You can look at presidents from Reagan onwards for blame.

Nearly all the new deal agencies are now gone.

I think tor will forever hold a certain stigma around it that scares less technically skilled people away. I've been using the browser for about 8 years now and I'm yet to really see any sort of difference in userbase. Brave browser has certainly done bits to get younger people on board with privacy and the onion network, but I imagine those people would have eventually found their way into the onion anyways. It's certainly more plausible that things /could/ change now though, it no longer takes a billion years to open onion links anymore which was a big factor in me using the browser more often.

I think people, in general, are mindless about privacy. We sign over tons of data to Amazon, store cards, streaming sites, etc. and it has become baked into daily life. All but a few of us are guilty of this to some extent.

With cryptographic networks the fundamental activities of a peaceful society have been freed from government control:

Finance check
Commerce check
Communications check

Yet physical violence remains a government monopoly. It's threat is considered the source of human order.

It's not hard to see how technology can decentralise violence too. Robots and a.i. are great equalizers of this terrible power. An army of 1 program could perhaps be enough to bring us back to the violent instability of our human past.

And that's what makes right now the best opportunity for peaceful and global evolution.

What our ancestors thought was only achievable through guns (or rocks), freedom from an exploitive ruling class, is becoming feasible through technology.

This revolution would look more like a pilgrimage for some, and for others a chance to improve the old game.

Are we as humans (and maybe our early successors/partners) able to do this? Or is it too late to avoid the old kind of revolution?

Do you view this as a positive or a negative? Personally for me, any sort of governance that is not my own really rankles. It's a hard one though. Many many MANY people have been convinced that there's no way at all humans can govern themselves, all the while forgetting that those that supposedly govern them are also humans (though that is entirely debatable in some circles, my own included, lol)
Edit: I'd written "his man's" instead of humans, and being a female that rankled me too. Lmfao. Just kidding. But still, correct text is better than not.
