in my experience, what sort of an experience you have depends greatly on how much of the ibotenic acid you manage to convert into muscimol before ingesting. it is the ibotenic acid which is toxic, and if you ingest much of it you will have a very bad experience. muscimol degrades at a slightly higher temperature than ibotenic acid, so it is down to keeping the drying temperature within a fairly tight limit - a very few degrees either side of 95C - for a sufficient period - 3 to 4 hours, or even longer if the temperature is at all uneven. don't fuck it up - it is very tricky to do in your kitchen, and poisoning yourself whilst tripping is not fun.
there are other ways to achieve the desired reaction if you have the skills, you could google them if you are interested. i have never tried any of them, but simmering them in water at an accurately measured 95C for 3-4 hours might be a good way i suppose - although the resulting gloop will undoubtedly taste appalling.
people talk about fly agaric trips being dark or heavy - if you process them correctly this isn't really true, it's just that it is difficult to do properly and many people don't realise that you have to. if you can sufficiently convert or degrade nearly all of the ibotenic acid it is certainly an odd, dissociative experience, but not unpleasant - a little bit like dmt tempered strongly with codeine, if that helps, so if anything tending towards rather fuzzy and warm. if you fail to do so it is likely to be a dark, deathlike, nightmarishly awful experience and can also cause serious liver damage and even kill you.
tripping is all about set and setting, and being dangerously ill will definitely spoil things. the shamans of siberia would eat the mushrooms raw, enduring the poisoning and allowing their livers to convert the ibotenic acid to muscimol. the rest of the tribe would then drink the shamans piss for a much easier, happier and less toxic trip. please don't do this.
incidentally, and surprisingly, given that they are potentially fatally toxic, amanita muscaria taste amazing - sweet, meaty, and even dried are actually amongst the tastier mushrooms i have eaten.

Maybe a massively slowed down Salvia. Because that realm is a dark one too.
I recommend research, better psychedelics, a lot of Terence McKenna, The Psychedelic Salon Podcast.
And caution.

It’s quite a couchy and kind of darker experience than Psylocybin. You also have to be careful about dosage as high doses can be toxic.
I’ve only done it once or twice and can’t say the experience was bad, but it’s definitely dissociative to a degree and takes you to a darker realm. Perhaps similar to things like Datura.
I’d say approach with some caution. Definitely parboil the mushrooms before ingesting as this will reduce the Ibotenic Acid content which is poisonous.
