Vendors - should I track?
I’ve never paid for tracking (I’ve been given tracking details but that’s a different story 😉).
Do vendors prefer us to track? Is a tracked item more likely to arrive un-molested as it spends less time being processed? Is tracking potentially a flag on the other hand which could raise suspicion over regular post?
Does the algo have an opinion?

The only LB packages I have ever not received have been untracked. I don’t believe they were sent and those vendors are no longer here. If a reliable vendor sends it then I think you’ll get it. Tracking just helps in disputes both ways….👍

Hey Polly, so you stick with tracking 100% or use your intuition each time?
I was thinking the dispute algo would prefer it

Some of my favourite vendors don’t offer tracked mate, but where there is a choice yes I would pay for it.
I’m sure it helps in a dispute 👍

Both sides have their ups and downs,

Tracked mail gives you peace of mind and untracked mail is better for the vendor tbh that’s what it comes down to.

Hi fly guy, why do you think vendors prefer untracked? OpSec or cost maybe?
Maybe some of the big hitters on here could advise?

untracked is much easier to process in large volumes, every day.

We have to use several locations in the UK to handle our volume safely.

We as vendors, have to allow for the extra supplies and processes needed to get tracked orders out daily as well as other orders.

Its not a big issue, but the balance is often in favor of unrecorded.

I would assume, that most vendors won't rely on the dispute algo to resolve issues.

We have always replaced or refunded our customers if needed.

I think, personally, it would be a bit sad / low to be in a situation where you had to argue delivery of an order with a customer. Regardless of tracking.

Honestly it makes absolutely no difference in the UK.

As much as it can feel like your waiting for the fuzz to knock....You have to keep in mind volume of post, means that you have to stick out like a sore thumb to raise suspicion.

Tracking only effects international orders, as then the mail is split and at this stage the tracked items are handled separately. So this does bring extra processes into the equation.

exactly WS, mails are split and, contrary to what people think, those tracked have a preferential lane, faster and subject to less checks..

completely different in case of untracked shipments... there will be long waiting times and random checks

Tracking is great as I know its being delivered and if it goes through a neighbours door as it has in the past I can see pretty much where its gone. It now shows a location on a map of where the postie scanned it.

The problem with tracking is that your postman can steal it by just signing it for you by writing xpi. Then to the vendor it looks like you got the package and are trying to rip them off.

XP1 means it was delivered and the post worker signed for it, because they can't have the general public handling their computer device thing (pandemic)

i've had either 3 or 4 tracked parcels go missing since 2019 in about 300 or so orders all tracked! it does happen but at least you both have a tracking number and can prove it was Royal Fails fault and not the vendors! and of course, any good vendor will entitle you to 100% replacement as compensation in that case!

on the other hand i've done around 50 non tracked orders and had a good 5 or 6 go missing!

tracked alllllllllll the way mate if and when you can, i think it looks even less suspicious as well with all those postage labels stuck to it instead of just a little 1st class stamp in the corner!

with that being said, i've just done a non tracked order, right before a postal strike, right before a bank holiday... wish me luck

I agree. I haven’t had 10 items of anything go missing in my entire life and I spent 10 years living in the tropics which didn’t have an address! (I once received a parcel from Amazon that someone had sent me from the UK where the address started “The Blue House”…it was sent as an Xmas present and arrived in June. Amongst the packaging wear and tear were blood stains 😂😂😂)…

Good old amazon, I've never had one not turn up yet. The stealth has improved alot some of mine used to turn up in 1 smell proof bag inside a jiffy bag now it's like pass the parcel.
