Does anyone else pass people on the street who are clearly picking up weed and think, “Thank fuck I don’t need to do that”?

I think anyone who’s picked up weed in that way can recognise the signs.

It’s usually a guy standing awkwardly in a residential street or just off to the side of the local shops. Glancing at his phone every 15 seconds, looking up as soon as a car hints at coming in their direction and hoping it’s their man, all while trying to look as low-key as possible while somehow standing out from a mile away. At least to those of us who’ve been through the same thing.

Then the car pulls up. They either jump in or lean through the window, do the awkward handshake/pass-the-weed kind of "discreet" handover thing, and disappear as quickly as possible.

I’m not trying to get into the “being happy because any old shit landed” argument, but compared to waiting around for some guy with no sense of time, being given full on nunchuck demonstrations in the dealer’s kitchen, listening to insane religious conspiracy theories, or being shown every song your dealer can play on guitar using the same three chords (all experiences I’ve had while picking up) it really does make me appreciate this place.

It does feel like that, it’s also completely killed my desire to visit Amsterdam etc. Even the amount of time this place has saved me from waiting around is unreal.

The prices of some of the packs are comparable with Amsterdam, and you can smoke it on your own sofa. Just as likely to be legit too.

Yes! I've lost count of the times I've been in a coffee shop thinking 'this is great but it would be so much better in my own space'.

I'd choose my sofa and the remote control over a coffee shop bench anyday.
